You'll soon feel at home in our cosy two bedroomed village house, built in traditional Andalucian style on three floors with a small roof terrace on the top floor. It is situated in a narrow pedestrian street really close to the village square towards the lower end of the village. Recently renovated with all expected modern conveniences, it has beautiful views of the mountains and the village from the roof terrace. It is one of the few houses in Competa to show a beautiful mosaic frontage, recently completed (2004) by a local artist.
Competa
(alt. 650m) lies in the foothills of the Sierra Almijara, which rise up to
2,000 m. It is only 18 km from the sea and about 50 km from Malaga. The narrow
streets climbing to the top of the village are full of charm, some of the
owners still housing their mules on the lower floor. Its history goes back to
the period of the Moors coming over from Africa in 14th century.. The warmth
and friendliness of the local people is always noted and there is a special
atmosphere in the village which makes you want to come back. Read more about
Competa in the Village page. Also A great site with

Further north is the Sierra Nevada, a national park about an hour's drive away, with the highest mountain in mainland Spain at 11,000 feet. The Sierra Nevada is usually snow-capped for much of the year, and has oak, chestnut and pine forests on its lower slopes, giving way to Alpine tundra and rocky crags towards the summits. The beautiful city of Granada, with the Alhambra Palace dating back over a 1000 years is situated here. The Alhambra is now a mix of Moorish and Christian influence and has spectacular water gardens and ancient tiled patios.
